CNSS AMO health reimbursement Morocco 2026

CNSS, CNOPS, AMO — navigating Morocco's health reimbursement system can be confusing. This practical guide explains how each scheme works, what coverage rates apply, how to check your entitlements online at damancom.ma, and how a supplemental mutuelle tops up your reimbursements.

CNSS vs. CNOPS: What's the Difference?

Feature CNSS CNOPS
Who it covers Private sector employees Civil servants & public employees
Health scheme AMO CNSS AMO CNOPS
Online portal damancom.ma cnops.gov.ma
Base coverage rate 70% of tariff reference 70–80% of tariff reference

AMO (Assurance Maladie Obligatoire) is the umbrella term for mandatory health insurance in Morocco. Both CNSS and CNOPS operate AMO schemes under the supervision of the Caisse Nationale des Organismes de Prévoyance Sociale (CNOPS) for public sector and CNSS for private sector.

AMO Coverage Rates

Type of Care AMO Coverage Your Remaining Share
GP consultation 70% 30%
Specialist consultation 70% 30%
Hospitalisation 90% 10%
Surgery 90% 10%
Radiology / Imaging 70% 30%
Medication (listed) 70% 30%

* Coverage is calculated on the AMO tariff reference rate, which may be lower than the actual fee charged by private clinics. The gap between the tariff and the actual fee is entirely at your expense.

Check Your Rights on damancom.ma

CNSS subscribers can check their AMO entitlements and reimbursement history on damancom.ma:

  • 1.Go to damancom.ma and create an account using your CNSS number
  • 2.Check your affiliation status — confirm you are active and your employer has paid contributions
  • 3.View your family members registered as beneficiaries (ayants droit)
  • 4.Track pending and processed reimbursement requests
  • 5.Download your reimbursement history for the past 2 years

Step-by-Step Reimbursement Process

  • 1.Keep all receipts: original invoice, prescription, and medical certificate
  • 2.Complete Form 101 (available at CNSS offices or on damancom.ma)
  • 3.Submit within 60 days of the medical expense — claims submitted after 60 days are rejected
  • 4.Submit online or at a CNSS branch — online submission via damancom.ma is faster
  • 5.Receive payment: typically 15–30 days after submission, directly to your bank account

Supplemental Health Insurance (Mutuelle)

A supplemental mutuelle covers the 30% co-payment left by AMO, as well as medical fees above the AMO tariff reference. In practice, a mutuelle can bring your effective coverage up to 90–100% of actual costs.

Wafir Tip

Compare supplemental mutuelle plans on our health insurance page. Monthly premiums range from 150 MAD (basic cover) to 800 MAD (comprehensive family plan). The sweet spot for most families is 300–450 MAD/month.

Covered vs. Not Covered by AMO

Covered by AMO

  • GP and specialist consultations
  • Hospitalisation and surgery
  • Lab tests and radiology
  • Listed medications
  • Maternity and childbirth

Not Covered by AMO

  • Dental care (except emergencies)
  • Optical (glasses, lenses)
  • Cosmetic procedures
  • Non-listed medications
  • Medical fees above tariff reference

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add my spouse and children to my CNSS coverage?

Yes. Your spouse (if not independently insured) and dependent children under 21 (or 26 if studying) can be registered as beneficiaries (ayants droit) on your CNSS account. Register them via damancom.ma or at a CNSS branch with their birth certificates.

What if my employer has not paid CNSS contributions?

If your employer is delinquent with CNSS contributions, your AMO rights may be suspended. You can check your status on damancom.ma. If there is a problem, report it to the CNSS inspection service — employers are legally required to pay contributions and can face penalties.

Does CNSS cover care received abroad?

CNSS does not cover routine care received abroad. Emergency treatment received outside Morocco may be partially reimbursed on the basis of Moroccan tariff references, which are typically much lower than international prices. For travel coverage, you need a separate travel insurance policy.
