About Zurich Assurance Maroc

Zurich Insurance Morocco no longer exists under that name: it is the former identity of a company that became Allianz Maroc in 2017 and was then absorbed by Sanlam Maroc on 2 July 2026. Zurich Insurance Group, the Swiss insurer founded in 1872 and headquartered in Zurich, ran a Moroccan subsidiary, Zurich Assurances Maroc, based in Casablanca, for more than six decades. In June 2016 the group announced the sale of this subsidiary to Germany's Allianz for 2.6 billion dirhams, while describing it as one of the market's most profitable companies, with more than 600,000 individual, professional and corporate customers (Le Matin, 19 June 2016). The deal closed on 3 November 2016 with the purchase of 98.9% of the capital, after 65 years of Zurich activity in Morocco (Le Matin, November 2016). The Allianz brand was officially launched on 22 February 2017 by Dirk De Nil, chief executive director, with the stated ambition of doubling market share by 2021 (La Nouvelle Tribune; Industrie du Maroc).

From Allianz Maroc to SanlamAllianz Maroc (2023-2026): in September 2023, Sanlam and Allianz pooled their African subsidiaries into the SanlamAllianz joint venture, present in 25 countries (sanlamallianz.com). In Morocco, this common shareholder gave the green light to combining its two companies in the summer of 2025 (Challenge.ma, August 2025). The boards of Sanlam Maroc (11 March 2026) and Allianz Maroc (12 March 2026) approved a merger by absorption of Allianz Maroc into Sanlam Maroc, based on a valuation of Allianz Maroc at 2,605 million dirhams, with a capital increase reserved for the shareholders of the absorbed company (La Nouvelle Tribune, 13 March 2026). The AMMC approved the prospectus on 16 June 2026 under reference VI/EM/020/2026 (Sanlam Maroc press release) and the merger has been effective since 2 July 2026, Allianz Maroc being dissolved without liquidation (sanlam.ma). The merged company announced its intention to adopt the SanlamAllianz Maroc name progressively, subject to regulatory approval (La Nouvelle Tribune, 7 July 2026). On the list of insurance companies licensed by ACAPS, no company carries the Zurich name any longer, and the zurich.ma domain simply redirects to the Swiss group's website.

2025 figures for the two companies combined: according to the ranking published by Le Matin, Allianz Maroc wrote 2.16 billion dirhams of premiums in 2025 (+12.3%) and Sanlam Maroc 6.19 billion (-1.4%, a 9.6% market share), in a Moroccan market worth 64.27 billion (+7.6%). The aggregate, around 8.35 billion dirhams or close to 13% of the market, places the combined entity third behind Wafa Assurance (12.74 billion) and RMA (9.53 billion). According to its press release of 11 February 2026, Sanlam Maroc posted a net profit of 451 million dirhams in 2025 (+7.9%), with 5,449 million of equity and 17,960 million of investments allocated to insurance operations. The new entity reports more than 6 million policyholders and more than 750 points of sale spread across more than 230 towns and localities.

You were a Zurich or Allianz customer: what happens to your policy?: existing policies remain valid until their expiry date, under the conditions subscribed (covers, services, price), with no action required on your part, as Sanlam Maroc states on its merger page. Your general agent or direct office remains your contact; certificates, endorsements and claims are now handled by Sanlam Maroc, headquartered at 216 boulevard Zerktouni, Casablanca (ACAPS licence: decision P/EA/3.22 of 28 March 2022 for Sanlam Maroc; Allianz Maroc held its own licence until the merger). A Zurich policy signed before 2017 and renewed every year has therefore changed insurer twice without changing conditions: simply check the company name on your next certificate and on your premium receipts.

The successor's offer: car (compulsory third-party liability, collision, comprehensive), multi-risk home, health top-up, life and savings, assistance and business contracts (civil liability, fleets, goods transport, workplace accidents), all classes for which Sanlam Maroc is licensed by ACAPS. As a benchmark, our 2026 comparison of the major car insurers places third-party premiums between MAD 1,800 and 2,300 per year for an average passenger-car profile, and our 2026 car insurance guide details covers, deductibles and the bonus-malus system. The Wafir.ma car insurance comparator lets you set the Sanlam offer against those of Wafa Assurance, RMA, AXA and AtlantaSanad, and our analysis of the Sanlam-Allianz merger looks at its consequences for policyholders.

Complaints and recourse: first send a written complaint to your agent or to Sanlam Maroc's customer service. If the answer is unsatisfactory, refer the matter free of charge to ACAPS through its online complaints platform, which assigns a case number and follows the file through to the insurer's response. For a dispute over a former Zurich or Allianz policy, Sanlam Maroc, as the absorbing company, is liable for the commitments.

Wafir.ma is neither an ACAPS-licensed insurance intermediary nor a credit institution: we compare offers. This page is kept for readers who still search for "Zurich Insurance Morocco"; premiums quoted are market orders of magnitude, and only the quote issued by the insurer is binding.
