Total duration: 14 weeks (98 consecutive calendar days), mandatorily taken before AND after delivery. Standard distribution: 7 weeks before + 7 weeks after.
Modulation possible: employee can choose to take 5 to 8 weeks before delivery, balance after. Request to formulate in writing to employer 2 months before leave. Medical advice: leave 6-7 weeks after delivery for optimal recovery + breastfeeding.
Possible extension
Multiple birth (twins, triplets): 4-week extension (total 18 weeks). No additional procedure, automatic with multiple birth certificate.
High-risk pregnancy or medical complications (preeclampsia, difficult delivery): 8-week extension (total 22 weeks) on detailed medical certificate.
Breastfeeding hours (upon return)
During first 12 months following delivery: employee entitled to 2 breastfeeding breaks of 30 minutes/day (1h total), combinable at day start or end.
Without salary reduction. If employer cannot accommodate logistically: monetary equivalent as allowance (rare in practice).
2. CNSS daily allowance — calculation and payment
Amount: 100 % of base salary
Allowance = 100 % of average daily salary of last 6 months preceding leave start, within CNSS cap (MAD 6,000/month = MAD 200/day).
Example: salary MAD 8,000/month → daily average MAD 267/day. Allowance capped at MAD 200/day (200 × 98 days = MAD 19,600 total for 14 weeks).
For salary ≤ MAD 6,000/month: allowance = 100 % of salary (no penalizing cap).
CNSS payment
Direct payment to employee's bank account (RIB declared to CNSS). Payment delay: 30-45 days after complete CNSS file deposit via Mon DAMANE.
Possibility of employer advance: some companies advance maternity allowance from 1st day of leave, then get reimbursed by CNSS (cash flow gain for employee).
Employer compensation (salary supplement)
Some collective agreements or work contracts provide for employer supplement to reach 100 % of REAL salary (beyond CNSS cap).
Typically concerns executives > MAD 6,000/month. To verify in your collective agreement or individual contract.

Professional status
Private-sector salaried employee registered with CNSS with at least 54 days of contributions in last 6 months preceding maternity leave start (equivalent 3 months full-time).
No historical cumulative minimum contribution required — recent activity counts (advantage for recently hired women).
Legal deadlines and declarations
Employer notification: at least 4 weeks before leave start (pregnancy medical certificate + expected delivery date).
CNSS notification: automatic via employer (DASS). Employee does not need to directly inform CNSS to open rights.

Step 1 — Employer notification (4 weeks before)
Provide to your employer: pregnancy medical certificate + expected delivery date + maternity leave request letter (desired duration 14-18 weeks).
Step 2 — CNSS file deposit on Mon DAMANE (after delivery)
